Lead Pastor–United Church of Beloit–Beloit, WI

The Lead Pastor is the ordained staff member whose primary responsibilities are loving and listening, shepherding and coaching, equipping and facilitating the children of God related to the United Church of Beloit, so that together we may grow towards a richer and stronger faith in Jesus Christ. The Lead Pastor is responsible for supervising all paid staff members.Priorities identified by the search committee include: Preaching/delivering relevant and engaging sermons; leadership and administrative skills; being kind, caring, pastoral, compassionate, good interpersonal skills; community engagement and bringing folks to God and to the church; and good knowledge of the Bible and ability to explain God’s word and apply it to people’s personal circumstances.Formal Description of Role/Areas of Responsibility:Worship• Construct/design a yearly plan of worship themes, services, and events centered around sermon series, special occasions, or specific seasons (Lent, Advent, etc.)• Develop weekly worship services in conjunction with the organist and song leaders, Office Secretary, and Licensed Lay Minister, as needed.• Lead Sunday worship services, including the majority of the preaching and administration of the sacraments (Lord’s Supper and Baptism)• Lead/participate in worship at other special services (Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, etc.) as determined in consultation with the Board of Church Life• Develop and oversee the production of the weekly worship bulletinPastoral Care• Visit hospital patients as appropriate and be responsible for arranging for a replacement when not available• Coordinate visits of shut-ins and nursing home members in consultation with the Licensed Lay Minister• Provide appropriate personal counseling and crisis assistance, as needed• Provide care and counsel for occasions of marriage and performing weddings• Provide care and counsel at the time of death and perform funerals and memorial servicesPastoral Leadership• Pray and grow in relationship with God• Help the lay leadership of United Church of Beloit seek, develop, and communicate God’s vision for the congregation• Work with the Church Officers and Church Boards to ensure church records and finances are properly kept• Work with Church Boards and custodial staff to ensure that the church facility and grounds are maintained• Provide administrative guidance for the church office and the church, in general• Prepare for, attend, participate in the follow-through with the church board meetings as an ex officio board memberSupporting the Church’s Activities and Presence in the Community• The Lead Pastor will attend, participate, or lend support to a reasonable number of scheduled church activities of his/her choice beyond the duties described in the above sections of the position description, as time and availability permits.
