Nones, Dones, and Networked Individuals: The Post-Christendom Future of the Church

April 10, 2017 @ 12:00 am

John Vest,  Visiting Professor of Evangelism at Union Presbyterian Seminary, Richmond, VA,  will be presenting “Nones, Dones, and Networked Individuals: The Post-Christendom Future of the Church”   at  Westminster Canterbury Richmond on March 27, April 3, April 10.

The twin headlines of American religion right now are the overall decline of Protestantism (both mainline and evangelical) and the so-called “rise of the nones.” Both of these trends are symptoms of a bigger phenomenon called “post-Christendom”—the eclipse of Christianity as the center and shaper of American culture. Traditional forms of church are no longer working in this constantly changing cultural context. Yet in the midst of this uncertainty, innovative forms of church and new ways of being faithful disciples of Jesus are emerging. In fact, some have called this a new great awakening of spirituality. In this interactive series of presentations and conversations, John Vest (Visiting Assistant Professor of Evangelism at Union Presbyterian Seminary) will frame the current cultural landscape of religion and spirituality in the United States and inspire participants to envision the church of our future.
