Samuel E. Balentine is Emeritus Professor of Old Testament at Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, VA. He has authored numerous books, including a commentary on Leviticus in the Interpretation Bible Commentary series (John Knox Press), The Torah’s Vision of Worship (Fortress Press), a commentary on the Book of Job in the Smyth and Helwys Commentary series, and most recently, Have You Considered My Servant Job? Understanding the Biblical Archetype of Patience (University of South Carolina Press, 2015). He was a member of the editorial board for The New Interpreter’s Bible and currently serves as the general editor of the Smyth and Helwys Bible Commentary series; series editor of Interpretation: Resources for the Use of Scripture in the Church; and editor-in-chief of the Oxford Handbook on Ritual and Theology (forthcoming). He is presently writing an Introduction to Wisdom Literature, which will be published by Abingdon Press.
