Voelz Elected Academy of Homiletics’ 2025 President

Rich Voelz has been elected to serve on the Executive Committee of the Academy of Homiletics, and in 2025 will serve as President. The professional guild of more than 200 scholars represents a wide array of denominations. Over the past year, Voelz has been co-directing a grant studying diversity, equity, and inclusion in the teaching and research of the Academy’s membership.

“I am honored to have been elected by my peers to serve in this capacity. The Academy of Homiletics has provided an environment to advance scholarship in preaching and to think deeply about how we teach preaching in a time when the church and ministries of proclamation are changing.”

Founded in 1965, the Academy of Homiletics is open to teachers and doctoral graduate students of homiletics across the world. Voelz will serve as 2nd Vice President in 2023, 1st Vice President in 2024, and President in 2025.

Seminary President Brian Blount said, “I’m excited Dr. Voelz has been elected to the Executive Committee of the Academy of Homiletics. His scholarly leadership will continue to impact students here at Union Presbyterian Seminary and beyond.”

Congratulations, Dr. Voelz!
