Professor Schweitzer retiring at end of June, 2019

RICHMOND, Va. (January 31, 2019) – In January of 2001, Dr. Carol L. Schnabl Schweitzer joined the faculty of our seminary. At the time of this appointment, she was on the verge of completing her Ph.D. dissertation at Princeton Theological Seminary. Upon her arrival on our faculty, she had substantial pastoral experience in several congregations in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and over five years of experience as a pastoral counselor and family therapist. For the past 18 years, she has served as a teacher and mentor to a vast number of students and has been actively engaged in many aspects of our seminary’s community life.

Professor Schweitzer will retire from our faculty on June 30, 2019. As such, this May term will be her final teaching term wherein she and Professor Richard Voelz will co-teach Preaching and Worship as Pastoral Care. With this course, and others she has offered, it is clear that her experiences in pastoral ministry, and continuing involvements in her current congregation, have been a rich resource for her teaching ministry.

Please join us in celebrating the many contributions of Dr. Carol L. Schnabl Schweitzer to our seminary, the students she has taught, and the Church she has served over the course of her ministry.
