Choral Evensong Highlights Seminary Choir and Pipe Organ on April 13

Richmond, VA (April 5, 2023)—Join students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests for a special Evensong service in Union Presbyterian Seminary’s Watts Chapel at 3401 Brook Road in Richmond, VA on Thursday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. During the service of sung evening prayer, the seminary choir will sing an anthem by William Harris, the beloved Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by Herbert Brewer.

Guest clinician and conductor for this service is Dr. Robert Lehman, visiting director of music at Christ Church Cranbook, an Episcopal church in Bloomfield Hills, MI.  Dr. Lehman composed responses specifically for this serene choral evensong. He also has served on the music staffs of Washington National Cathedral and Christ Church New Haven.

Doug Brown, Union’s director of music, will accompany the choir from the seminary’s pipe organ, built by Schoenstein & Co. Organ Builders and installed in August 2022. The Schoenstein family has been building distinguished instruments for five generations.

This event is made possible through a grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship for the purpose of showcasing the beautiful new Watts Chapel instrument. Union Presbyterian Seminary is grateful to the many generous donors who helped fund the first pipe organ custom designed and built for Watts Chapel.
