Children’s Director (PT) – St Matthews UMC – Richmond, VA

This is a part-time, salaried position at St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church (SMUMC).  The primary function of this position is to cast and lead a vision for the children’s ministry (ages Birth – 5th grade) that is aligned to our mission to reach seekers, build believers, and serve the world.  The director must have a passion for children and helping them grow in their faith in Jesus.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Develop, coordinate, and lead volunteer teams to implement the vision of and grow the Children’s ministry
  • Collaborate with staff and Church Leadership Council to help the church live out its mission to reach seekers, build believers, and serve the world together.
  • Create engaging experiences and environments for children that help them grow in their faith in Jesus (i.e. Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Nursery, etc.)
  • Create a safe, clean environment for Sunday mornings and other periodic events
  • Engage children in age-appropriate opportunities to serve inside and outside the church community
  • Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • College degree preferred;
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience in working with children (Ages Birth – 5th grade)
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and multi-tasking skills
  • Can organize and execute volunteer management
  • Self-motivated individual who is creative, focused and takes initiative
  • Growing & maturing faith in Jesus Christ
  • Teachable spirit & a team player with a collaborative work style
  • CPR and First Aid Trained (will provide training if needed)
  • Commitment to embracing the St. Matthew’s mission
