Associate Pastor for Youth and Young Adults – State College Presbyterian Church – State College, PA
State College Presbyterian Church (SCPC) is a warm, diverse, dynamic, Christ-centered faith community with people of all ages and generations coming together to worship, learn, and serve together. We are firmly rooted in the biblical tradition, but look forward with trust and expectation to the Holy Spirit’s action in our church and our community. We aspire to live into the words of our welcoming statement:
In response to God’s unconditional love and Jesus’ example of hospitality, State College Presbyterian Church is called to be a welcoming community. We affirm all people equally, regardless of, for example, race, ethnicity, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, capability, religious background, or circumstance of life. We are committed to removing barriers that separate us. As we gather in worship, fellowship and service, all are welcome.
In this new position, the Associate Pastor will provide vision and support to our programs for middle and high school youth, college age communities and young adult professionals. We expect them to work with volunteer leaders to sustain and develop each of these programs.
A primary task for the Associate Pastor is fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment within each program that allows each person to participate as their fully authentic self. Another critical task is supervising a small group of adult volunteers in each program to plan and execute meetings and activities on a regular basis. We expect the Associate Pastor to meet our youth and young adults where they are and provide spiritual leadership and guidance to them.
In addition to their primary responsibilities with youth and young adults, the Associate Pastor will engage in worship planning and leadership (including preaching), pastoral care, and other ministries of the church, in collaboration with the Senior Pastor.
