Union Presbyterian Seminary has equipped ordained ministers, church leaders, and Christian educators for the global church for more than 200 years. The Syngman Rhee Global Mission Center, established in 2018, nurtures our commitment to the church universal by hosting international students and scholars at our Richmond campus.
UPSem offers the following degree programs for International Students
Master of Divinity (M.Div.)
The Master of Divinity (M.Div.) is Union's foundational professional degree for those called to ordained ministry, chaplaincy, nonprofit leadership, or community-based service. This program is designed to form resilient pastors and public leaders for congregations, chaplaincy, nonprofits, and beyond.
Master of Arts in Christian Education (M.A.C.E.)
The Master of Arts in Chrisitan Education (M.A.C.E.) is a flexible program designed for educators, leaders, and ministry practitioners who shape Christian formation in congregations, schools, and communities.
Master of Divinity/Master of Christian Education
Dual Degree
The Master of Divinity/Master of Christian Education (M.Div/M.A.C.E) is a flexible dual program combing Christian education and theology.
Master of Theology (Th.M.)
A one-year advanced master's degree for deeper academic study before pursuing teaching, doctoral work, or specialized ministry. The Master of Theology (Th.M.) is made for advanced theological study for leaders in the global church and can be used as preparation for doctoral work. This program includes a Th.M. seminar, a year-long colloquium, and a thesis or summative project.
Please note
All international students must begin in the Fall term. We are not currently offering any fully online programs for international students.
International applications are only accepted for the Richmond campus. Our Doctor of Ministry and Master of Arts in Public Theology programs, and all programs on our Charlotte campus, are not open to international students.
International students cannot apply as a Limited Enrollment applicant.

Apply
Complete an online application in SONIS by December 1, 2026 to start in Fall semester 2027.
References
Share the names and email addresses of three people to serve as references. Your references will receive questions from UPSem to fill out and return.
References must be returned to UPSem by February 1, 2027.
Transcripts
Send ALL transcripts from previous institutions to admissions@upsem.edu or via mail to the Richmond Campus. Transcripts must be received by February 1, 2027.
Interview
Complete an admissions interview and a faculty interview by February 1, 2027.
Submit ELP Scores
Submit English Language Proficiency Scores or request a waiver by February 1, 2027.
