This is National Estate Planning Awareness Week

What is Estate Planning and why should I consider it?  Estate gifts are sometimes referred to as “stop-and-think” gifts because they require some planning and, often, help from a professional advisor such as an attorney.  The most common estate gift is a bequest in a will or trust and it is one of the easiest ways to support an organization that has played a significant role in your life.

More than half of Americans, an estimated 56%, do not have an estate plan in place, making estate planning a critically overlooked component of financial wellness.  National Estate Planning Awareness Week was declared by Congress on September 27, 2008 to help consumers understand the importance of estate planning.  The purpose of estate planning is to develop a strategy that will maintain the financial security of individuals through their lifetime and ensure the intended transfer of their property and assets at death, while taking into consideration the unique circumstances of their family.  If you have an estate plan, now is a good time to review your documents to determine if you need an update.

The Walter W. Moore Legacy Society recognizes those generous donors who have included Union Presbyterian Seminary in their estate plans.  These thoughtful contributors follow in the footsteps of Walter W. Moore, a visionary who was instrumental in the formation of today’s seminary.
