Rhee Receives Honorary Doctorate of Divinity

Recognizing his significant contributions to the global church and the world, Syngman Rhee, special assistant to the president for global ministry and advancement, received an honorary doctorate of divinity from the Presbyterian College and Theological Seminary in Seoul, Korea during their Founders' Day celebration on May 8.
 

Dedicating his life to a ministry of reconciliation, Rhee worked for racial justice in the early 60s and continues today to work for peace between North and South Korea.  After 20 years in the World Wide Ministries division of the PC(USA), Rhee served as president of the National Council of Churches in the U.S.A. from 1992-93 and as the moderator of the 212th General Assembly of the PC(USA) in 2000-01. From 1998 until last year when he assumed his present position, he was visiting professor of intercultural studies and director of the Asian-American Ministry and Mission Center at Union Presbyterian Seminary.
