Asian American Ministry Center

Continuing Education

Established by Union Presbyterian Seminary in 1999, the center provides for the needs of Asian American students, alums, and regional pastors in their ministry. The center provides continuing education opportunities to support Asian American pastors, educators, and lay leaders.

  • November 21-22, 2016: Charlotte Area Asian-American Pastors Continuing Education

    • The Ministry that Builds Up and Does Not Let Down, with Rev. Peter I. Sohn, president of the Korean Church Coaltion ~ Cost: $50 per person. Registration closes on October 31. Housing in the Charlotte area is on your own. No walk-in registrations will be allowed.

      Description: This seminar will articulate the understanding of ministry as building up the church, introduces ways of preaching, creative ministries, and crisis management that help the church grow, and suggest a retirement planning that does not let down the church.

  • February 20-22, 2017: Mid-Atlantic Korean Pastors Continuing Education

    • The Gospel of God Revealed in Paul’s Letter to the Romans, with Johann D. Kim, professor of New Testament at Colorado Christion University and pastor of Boulder Korean Church ~ Cost: $125 for pastors; $175 for couples ($100 for pastors and $150 for couples who register by January 31); includes all meals and housing.

      Description: This seminar will attempt to listen to the Gospel of God through the theological/rhetorical exegesis of Paul’s letter to the Romans. It will try to understand the content of the Gospel in the first century context, following Paul’s arguments for faith (Chapters 1-4), for hope (Chapters 5-11), and for love (Chapters 12-16), and to draw out its meaning for today’s church and Christians. This seminar will take the methodology of missional hermeneutics and discuss how the exegetical outcome could be used fie preaching and leading the Bible study.
