Seminary for a Day 2017

Seminary for a Day  consists of a full day of keynote addresses and workshops, connections with old friends and new, and a taste of what seminary education is like.  The day features the faculty of Union Presbyterian Seminary campus in Richmond.

There will be workshops in the morning and afternoon; choose one workshop in the morning and one in the afternoon. Lunch will be provided following the morning workshops.  The cost for the day is only $25.

UPSem Professor Richard W. Voelz will offer the morning keynote address, Moving the “Conversation” Forward: Preacher, Congregation, and Public in Divided Times:  It is no secret that we live in divided times. How does preaching play a faithful role in the midst of them? This keynote address will explore how over the past generation, the metaphor of “conversation” has emerged in preaching, and how it might serve us going forward.

Professor Luke A. Powery of Duke Divinity school will offer the afternoon keynote address, The Gift of Tears:  This keynote will engage Jeremiah and Jesus to explore the role of weeping as a vital Christian practice today.

Union Presbyterian Seminary exists in three different forms:  the campus in Richmond, the campus in Charlotte, and the Blended Learning Program.

Pre-registration for Seminary for a Day is now closed.  You may register at the door on Saturday; you may choose your workshops and we have ordered a few extra lunches.  Hope to see you there!
